I’m Tommie Podzemski. I’ve been building software for close to 30 years.

Most of that time has been spent moving through the pieces around it – development, DevOps, infrastructure and product management. I’ve built and managed products used by millions of people.

The part that interests me is where those meet: what the business needs, what the customers want, and how you actually build it.

I work at both ends of the scale. At Yalta in Gothenburg I’m Chief Product Officer, helping companies with digital transformation. Through my own company, TomPod AB, I build and run a portfolio of smaller products.

What this site is

This is where I think out loud. Development, product decisions, and what it’s actually like to ship things without a team behind you.

It’s not a portfolio. If you’re looking for the products, they live at TomPod AB.

I’ve been writing here since 2000, which means the archive is long and uneven. Recent posts are about AI changing the economics of building software. Further back you’ll find Ubuntu fixes, PHP notes and a personal diary from a much younger version of me.

I’ve kept all of it. It’s a reasonably honest record of twenty-five years on the web, and deleting the awkward parts felt like cheating.

The work

Everything I build ships under TomPod – mobile apps, web products and a number of niche sites.

Right now that mostly means Whispermarks, a bookmark manager with zero-knowledge encryption – your bookmarks are encrypted on your device before they ever reach a server, so nobody can read them, including me. Alongside that: EmojiChat, which is exactly what it sounds like, and CleanBoard, which strips the formatting when you paste. macOS and Windows.

I’m also the original creator of InBrowser, the private browsing app for Android and iOS, which is now owned by Private Internet Access.

I also buy and sell domain names. The ones currently available are on the domains for sale page.
